Camp Occohannock, October 15-21

For further information about the camp and Hope Project go to www.ootbay.org.

Camp Occohannock on the Bay is a member of the UMC Camp and Retreat Ministry. The camp is in Belle Haven, VA near the bottom of the Delmarva peninsula. The mission of Camp Occohannock is to create environments of Christian hospitality and learning designed to help people. It provides opportunities where everyone is welcome, faith is strengthened, and lives are changed. It is a ministry that impacts youth, children, families, and the larger community.

Hope Project is a large multi-year, multi-phase project to upgrade and renovate portions of the campgrounds and facilities. The current phase involves completion of the new building which connects Cabins 4 & 5. The expanded space provides extra sleeping spaces and helps with ratios of counselors to campers.   An additional benefit is more space for meetings and gatherings, family retreats and youth group retreats. It is expected this will reduce staffing needs for summer camps and increase camper beds.

Paxton Church has been invited to assist in the construction and funding of the Hope Project. It is hoped Paxton Church can raise $4000 in donations for this mission. Bill Toner recently visited the camp. He is now formulating a plan of work that would provide opportunities for volunteers of all skill levels and abilities. The volunteers would leave Sunday, October 15th and return Saturday, October 21st. Additional details will be provided as they are available. Bill Toner (717-545-6787) will be the coordinator for this mission.
